Nature's Cleanup Crew

Winter wastes nothing.

I came across this bald eagle in a snowy field, standing guard over a deer carcass — patient, regal, and completely unbothered by me. By the second photo, it had tucked in.

It's easy to forget how essential scavengers are. Eagles like this keep the whole winter ecosystem running, cleaning up what winter leaves behind.

And yes — both of these were taken with my phone. Sometimes the best camera is the one in your pocket.

Sunrise Through the Trees

From the archives — this one was taken back in 2013, and it still takes me back to that morning. A blazing sunrise framed by dark birch trunks, with the first light of the day spilling across the grass.

Sometimes the best shots are the ones you stumble on while already out the door. This has been one of my favorites for years — and if you look closely, there's even a 60 speed limit sign hiding in the trees, a little surprise in the frame.

This one hangs beautifully as a print — the warmth of the orange against the deep greens works in almost any room. Send me a message if you'd like one.

Meet the Pileated Woodpecker

Caught this male pileated woodpecker mid-visit at the suet feeder — that bold red crest, the striped face, and the intensity in its eye make it one of my favorite backyard portraits.

The pileated woodpecker is North America's largest woodpecker, and seeing one up close never gets old. The contrast between its striking black-and-white plumage and the soft green blur of the trees gives the shot so much depth.

Welcome to CDunning Photography “Award-winning pelican photograph — Reflections of Nature Photography Contest, 2007.” Seeing the World Through My Lens Hello, and welcome to my photography blog! My name is Cheryl Dunning, and I'm a photographer from Manitoba, Canada. Photography has been a passion of mine for many years. I love capturing nature, wildlife, landscapes, architecture, sunsets, and those little moments that people sometimes walk right past without noticing. Over the years, I've been fortunate enough to have some of my photography published in magazines and newspapers, featured on television, and recognized in photography contests. Some of my favorite accomplishments include winning a photography contest with my pelican photo, having my work featured on CBC and CTV, and seeing my photographs published in Our Canada and More of Our Canada. But photography has never been just about winning contests or getting published. It's about being in the right place at the right time, seeing something beautiful or unusual, and capturing that moment before it's gone. Sometimes it's a bird in flight, a peaceful reflection on the water, an old building, or a dramatic sky. I enjoy finding beauty in ordinary places. oh boy it's been a long time

I really should try and update this more often... i've changed my website a bit as far as the sports photos go. I now have different folders for different sports instead of all jumbled into one. So that is an improvement.. I need to boost my web exposure.. I need to figure out how to market myself more anyone want to help? ok so i've gotten into taking soccer and football in addition to my hockey .. and sometimes baseball photos...come check out my galleries main site is here : www.cdunningphotography.ca also had a run of bad luck.. .. had my garage broken into and a lot of stuff taken... if it wasn't for bad luck I would have no luck at all?

wow time flies

well .. apparently it's been a couple of years since I posted on here... I did manage to get another camera. I switched brands...from olympus to cannon. so far I like it.. but I was partial to Olympus. just didn't feel like paying the extra money to get different lenses. maybe one day i'll get another olympus to use the lenses I still have.. so .. now I have a canon rebel t6. with 3 lenses so far.. i'd love to get a really good zoom lens for some wildlife photography.. but alas the 70-300 will have to do for now. or if I could save up and get a converter as well... I seem to be behind on posting photos on here and i will catch up soon. :-) hopefully this year i'll go places that I haven't been yet and take more photos.. hopefully this virus eases up so I can travel a bit and take more photos.

Well i'm now down one camera now .. my olympus e420 died ... so back to using the olympus e300. time to look for another camera but it works so well.

wow I've been away for awhile

New Hard Rock Magazine published it’s “Best 2015 Hard Rock Songs” list. The awesome list includes hard rock icons such as Five Finger Death Punch and new band that sounds like Black Sabbath and Guns n Roses on steroids called Thirteen. Black and white Gallery

I went to visit the Assiniboine Park Zoo to see Hudson the polar bear as well as the Penguin exhibit. Unfortunatey Hudson was sleeping when I got there so I didn't get any shots of him. I got some photos of the penguins although I think they are in a really small enclosure. Baby snow leopard cubs are very cute and I did manage to get a couple of shots of them. I love to take photos of flowers, even if they do make me sneeze. here are some shots of lilies that I took recently. macro shots taken with my olympus e300 and 70-300 mm lens

well I got up early and tooks some sunrise photos at lake winnipeg since I was on the wrong side for a sunset.. I will post a couple of my favorites here
